I recently found out from the dashing Monty Macalino, lead vocalist and guitarist of Mayonnaise, that the band’s latest CD will be released before the end of the month. The album is called Pula, and I’m quite excited to hear it especially after learning that all the basic tracks were recorded by the Manila-based band in Cebu.
My long time engineer and partner in studio crime, Angee Rozul, helped the band set up and record the Cebu sessions which lasted for a week. I asked him what gear they used there and here’s what he sent via bbm - ‘Cubase then imac, maudio fast track w/ behringer i/o extension. Audix mics. 6 mics lang ang drums. Orange china made amps na naka sm57 mic. May samson condenser mic na ginamit ko for ambience na nilagay ko sa 2nd floor ng bahay. Sa living room lang kami ng recording.’
If you ask me, the Cebu recording sessions sounded like a ton of fun. :)
Aside from the refreshing production process, Monty said that the band also had a new approach conceptually - ‘sinubukan din namin yung mala sgt peppers na may soundtrack/cinematic feel yung album.’
Several signed and unsigned artists also collaborated with the band throughout the album. Abangan!
Meantime, check out the astig poster.
